Bright Orthodontics are pleased to provide NHS orthodontic treatment for motivated patients under 18 with excellent oral hygiene and meet the NHS IOTN criteria.
Once we’ve received your details from the central dental referral portal, our team of Specialist Orthodontists will carry out assessments, and those who meet the criteria will be offered NHS orthodontic treatment.
Read moreWe hope all patients will read and understand the information we send you before embarking on your NHS Patient Journey with us. You’ll need to ensure you’ve filled out the online forms we’ve sent 24 hours in advance. You must let us know if the child has additional needs; We may then ask for more information to make sure we can best help your child during their visit.
DOWNLOAD LEAFLETSDuring your initial appointment you can discuss any initial concerns with one of our Specialist Orthodontists whilst we assess your bite and alignment to determine your IOTN Score. This is straightforward and involves nothing more than taking a few measurements. We may also take clinical photographs and x-rays.
Once we’ve determined your treatment needs and you’ve understood the commitment to treatment, you’ll be offered an appointment for records (photos, scan, Xrays) and then appointment for consent where we will discuss all of your treatment options. A legal guardian must be present in this appointment to obtain consent for those under 18 years of age.
At the end of your assessment visit you’ll proceed, starting in one of the following groups:

LEARN MOREWhether you/your child is having a removable brace or a fixed brace, we’ll give you the appointment to fit the appliance and take onboard any additional information you’ll need to take care of your brace and to keep teeth healthy.
Your fitting appointment will be between 30-60 minutes depending on the type of braces you’re receiving. We also offer a brace care kit that can be purchased at reception.
We’d like to see you every 6-10 weeks to check and adjust your brace. These appointments are straightforward and approximately... 20 minutes long. After-school appointments are prioritised for patients in their GCSE year (Year 11) at school. Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a legal guardian or an agreed designated responsible adult.
Breakages can happen - especially if your brace isn’t being properly cared for. Please do get in touch (preferably with... a photograph via email) so that we can book a repair appointment. Any damage to your brace can prolong your orthodontic treatment so it’s best to avoid breakages.
Congratulations! You will have completed your treatment and consented to brace removal. We will remove your braces, and show you... your new smile! Final Records (photographs, intraoral scans) will again be taken to make retainers, record the changes and monitor care outcomes.
Once your orthodontic treatment is completed, we will provide you with retainers to wear along with instructions. Without retainers your teeth... will relapse into their previous position. Retainers are usually removable and play a crucial role in maintaining the positions of your teeth. This is because retainers are designed to hold your teeth in their final place.
After the first year of wearing retainers, we will discharge you from our care and request your dentist to monitor... your retainers. You will receive a discharge letter and a copy is sent to your dentist via the Dental Referrals Portal. The NHS does not provide retainer maintenance after 12 months of debonding. Often retainers can get worn out/be damaged or lost over time, and without wearing them regularly, you are risk of relapse. If concerned please contact us or your dentist to make a new retainer. You will be charged a private fee at this stage. If you have any questions or retainers that need to be reviewed, please do not hesitate to contact us. We’re happy to offer help and advice - we have your best interests at heart.
We will contact you to book an appointment and sent online forms to complete. Please complete these atleast 24 hours before your appointment.
A Specialist Orthodontist will assess if you qualify for NHS treatment and discuss your smile goals.
You’ll have photographs, 3D scans, and x-rays taken to help us create a treatment plan.
We’ll present your treatment options and ask for your consent to start treatment.
The start of your treatment - your brace fit appointment will take approximately 20-60minutes. We will give you all the information you need on how to care for your new braces.
Every 6-10 weeks you’ll see us to make minor adjustments and review your progress.
It’s smile day! We’ll carefully remove your braces and take scans to create your retainers.
24hrs after your brace removal we’ll give you retainers to keep your teeth straight.
You’ll see us every 2-3 more times to check that your retainers are still fitting well. Don’t forget to bring them with you!
Congratulations! You’re ready to be discharged from our care. If you ever have any problems in the future we’re always happy to see you!

We see a whole host of indicators that your teen feels unhappy with their smile. These include covering their mouth when they talk or smile; shying away from photos being taken; stopping smiling; and low self-esteem and confidence.
You can help them, by bringing them to our practice.
Take control of your child’s dental health by requesting a free virtual consultation today (only for private treatments) with our treatment coordinator or full clinical assessment with our specialist orthodontist at a reduced fee.
We can use classic metal braces to correct complex issues, just as we do with ceramic braces. There is only one distinction between them: the material. In this case, metal brackets are more economical (less expensive) than ceramic.
These are fitted to the front of the teeth like traditional braces, but with clear and tooth-coloured brackets. These are much more discreet than metal braces without compromising on treatment.
Besides being nearly invisible, Invisalign aligners can also be removed at any time. This means your teen can continue to eat their favourite foods or even remove the aligners for special occasions. Reduced visits to the orthodontist with clear aligners.
The cost for braces for children varies according to their degree of complexity, but most cases can be as low as £1950. We also offer 0% interest payment options.
